Software Helps 2.3 Million Citizens Drink Clean Water
Tampa Bay Water has a critical job. The agency is tasked with delivering 171 million gallons of safe, reliable water per day to 2.3 million citizens. Tampa Bay Water is a special district of the State of Florida created by six interlocal governments to supply wholesale water to Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties, and the cities of New Port Richey, St. Petersburg, and Tampa.
Tampa Bay Water’s system is like no other water supply in the nation because it blends river water, desalinated seawater and groundwater. The agency manages a complex water supply system for the crucial mission to conserve, protect, and provide quality drinking water. Tampa Bay Water typically has up to 70 individual capital projects in its five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) in various stages of planning, design, and construction. The 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Plan iis approximately $255 million.
Several Microsoft Tools and a Home-grown Solution
Tampa Bay Water uses mainly Microsoft Word, InfoPath, SharePoint, Excel, Project and Office 365 as their go-to everyday tools for managing projects. They also had a customized database application that was developed in-house by the agency’s IT department in 2000.
