Ministry of Transportation, Ontario, selects Aurigo Masterworks™ to Plan and Deliver an Annual $3 Bn Capital Program

February 1, 2013

February 2013, Aurigo is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Transportation, Ontario (MTO) has chosen its award winning solution Masterworks™ to plan and oversight delivery of $3 Bn capital expenditure.

With a population of 13.5 million, Ontario is easily Canada’s most populous province and is also home to Canada’s capital, Ottawa, and its largest city, Toronto. Ontario’s transportation system is equally large and diverse, and includes urban and rural areas with a total of approximately 39,000 lane-kilometers of highway, over 2,800 bridges and structures, 29 remote airports, and other infrastructure such as lighting, signs, guide rails and maintenance / material storage related buildings. Management of that huge network is provided by (MTO), which invests billions of dollars annually in capital construction, maintenance, and operation of the entire transportation infrastructure

MTO is currently using a legacy in-house system that tracks and allocates delivery funds and projects and is not meeting the growing needs of the organization. As per the formal Request of Proposal (RFP) issued by MTO, the current system does not meet business requirements, lacks flexibility, requires manual intervention, and has inaccurate data importation into other financial systems.

MTO came out with an open RFP to “acquire, configure, customize and implement a Capital Improvement Delivery (CID) solution based on a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) package with a successful track record in the provision of CID systems to manage the annual budget for network rehabilitation projects, preferably in jurisdictions with similar requirements as the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO).”

MTO’s quest to find the right off-the-shelf system for their needs took years of analysis by multiple departments, and the preparation of an RFI and then an RFP that ultimately came to several hundred pages. MTO from a long list of CID replacement candidates selected Masterworks™ from Aurigo Software Technologies, Inc. as its solution of choice. Aurigo has partnered with Avanade, (a Joint Venture of Accenture and Microsoft) a leading global system integration provider, to deliver the Aurigo Masterworks™ solution to MTO.

Aurigo CEO Balaji Sreenivasan said, “We are delighted to partner with the MTO to change the way they plan and deliver over $20 Billion of capital improvement programs over the next 5 years. This is strategic customer of Aurigo and we are 100% committed to the success of this project. We are working very closely with Avanade and the MTO to ensure a successful deployment. We have our best resources on and off the field supporting this engagement. The Aurigo management team is directly involved in overseeing the program. Masterworks™ is going to change the way programs are planned and delivered in Ontario, which could be the way forward for other Provinces and municipalities in Canada to follow.”
