Problem at scale
More than 20 different departments were independently planning, tracking, and managing infrastructure projects using a variety of tools with no consistency across departments. In the face of unprecedented growth, the City was having difficulty establishing audit trails, managing scheduling, collaborating, and controlling projects.
The City needed a solution that could:
- Scale across all departments
- Automate workflows and reporting
- Integrate with ESRI ArcGIS, SunGard HTE, and Laserfiche
- Support mobile capability in the field
- Provide strong reporting and data analytics
- Manage land acquisition alongside capital planning
Aurigo's approach
The City of Fargo issued an RFP for a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) product to track and manage complex capital projects across multiple years. CIP Planner, Aurigo, e-Builder, and 4Tell Solutions submitted responses. The committee indicated that of all respondents, the Aurigo team clearly had the best understanding of what the City of Fargo was looking for. Aurigo stood out from the competition on day one as the only solution that offered a Land Management module and GIS integration in addition to capital planning and project controls.
Following the first round of scoring, the selection committee asked Aurigo, CIP Planner, and e-Builder to conduct product demonstrations. Aurigo and e-Builder were then narrowed down as finalists, with each vendor asked to provide a hands-on sandbox environment for user evaluation. Aurigo outscored e-Builder on all three criteria: technology, demonstration, ease of use, and cost. The selection committee, comprised of staff from Engineering, Public Works, Design and Construction, and Finance, unanimously selected Aurigo.
