How King County Metro Transit transformed capital program delivery with Aurigo Masterworks

King County Metro Transit's project, program, and contracts data resided in many dispersed, nonintegrated systems. Compiling data into meaningful reports was time-consuming, and by the time reports were finalized, much of the data was already outdated. Without a single source of truth, management was making decisions based on fragmented, incomplete, or old information. Visibility at the portfolio and program levels was limited to manually created reports. Several audits recommended KC Metro implement a CIP project, portfolio, and program management and reporting system.

Aurigo Masterworks was deployed as KC Metro's Capital Management Reporting System (CMRS), enabling the Project Controls Division to plan and execute capital projects across six departments: Paratransit Rideshare Operations, Power and Facilities, Speed Reliability, Transit Route Facilities, Vehicle Maintenance, and System Development and Operations.

Functionality implemented for CMRS:

• Project planning and budget management
• Program and portfolio management
• Risk and issue log
• Schedule and resource management
• Asset management
• Budget vs actuals tracking

Masterworks was also deployed as a Contractor Payment System (CPS), managing master contracts and project-specific contracts across the same six departments.

Masterworks integrated with six existing KC Metro systems:

• Innotas: data exported to IT projects reporting system
• Project Information Centre (PIC): data exported to county-wide reporting system
• Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS): budget appropriations and expense information
• PeopleSoft: resource information for schedule and budget
• Enterprise Asset Management (EAM): data for assets to be replaced and newly acquired
• Microsoft Project: project schedule and resource management
